UH Football Returns To Valley Isle
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i Warrior football team will hold its 12th practice of the spring at Maui’s War Memorial Stadium, Saturday, April 21. The trip marks the fourth consecutive year the team will hold a practice on a neighbor island and second to Maui.
The team will conduct a two-hour practice from 9:30-11:30 a.m., then hold an autograph session from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free to the public.
“We’re excited for this opportunity to showcase our football team to our fans on Maui,” head coach Norm Chow said. “Our players and coaching staff understand the responsibility we have to represent the state of Hawai‘i and this is our way to tell our Maui fans ‘thank you.’ We’re excited and I can’t wait to show them what the 2012 Warriors are all about.”
The event is sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines. The Warriors started this island-hopping tradition with a practice and scrimmage at War Memorial Stadium in 2009, which drew a crowd of close to 3,000. It was the team’s first visit to a neighbor island since UH opened the 2001 regular season against Montana at War Memorial Stadium.
In 2010, UH practiced at Kaua‘i’s Vidinha Stadium while last year’s event was held at Kamehameha Schools-Keeau campus in Keeau, Hawai‘i.
