The Stadium Stars "Hawaii's Sports Broadcasting Program'

The Stadium Stars Sports Broadcasting Program at Aloha Stadium, is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning and developing the basics in sports announcing.

The Stadium Stars, Hawaii Sports Broadcasting Program, at Aloha Stadium was started in 1994, as a unique sports broadcasting concept, by Les Keiter and former Aloha Stadium manager Eddie Hayashi. Since 1991, all high school sporting events were being shot, and recorded to videotape, via the Aloha Stadium jumbotron crew.

Keiter, who was the Aloha Stadium media spokesperson at the time, thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of the situation, and allow individuals who were interested in the sports broadcast field the opportunity to call a game as it was played from a 50,000 seat facility. Les Keiter then critiqued their work, and offered helpful tips from his 50 years of broadcast experience.

Stadium Stars participants get a valuable "head start", and opportunity to learn the basics of sports broadcasting.  They practice and sharpen their broadcast skills by calling an actual live game, and develop good habits in game preparation, professionalism, and teamwork. Traits they will need in the "real world" should they decide to make it a career. Recent alumni of the Stadium Stars program that have moved on to opportunities in the sports broadcast world include: Kevin Hashiro (UH and high school sports), Blaine Kauwe (UH and high school sports), Rob DeMello (KITV sports), and Anahola Joel Pahukula (Kauai).

All Stadium Stars events are available for purchase on DVD as family mementos.
