Aloha Stadium Summary Report
Aloha Stadium will turn 40 years old on Sept. 12, 2015. The aging facility faces several significant circumstances that provided a timely opportunity for the Stadium Authority to commission a professional study to identify matters to consider when making decisions about the future of Aloha Stadium.
Key circumstances surrounding the future of Aloha Stadium include:
- the ongoing cost of capital improvement projects;
- the ongoing maintenance and operational cost;
- the possibility of removing federal and city deed restrictions on the property;
- the siting of a transit station at Aloha Stadium as part of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.
In September 2013, the Stadium Authority, with assistance from the State Office of the Attorney General, engaged Foley & Lardner LLP to prepare a Comprehensive Site Summary for Aloha Stadium and the surrounding property.
The Summary will provide factual data regarding redevelopment and/or the feasibility of building a new stadium, as well as opinions and feedback from the facility’s major stakeholders.
The Stadium Authority intends to analyze the information provided in the Summary, gather additional feedback from the general public and evaluate the overall mission of the facility in order to make informed decisions about the future of Aloha Stadium. This has been a lengthy process that includes significant public input to assist us in evaluating all options. We welcome continuing feedback as we continue our stewardship of Aloha Stadium.
While the Summary includes observations and recommendations from Foley & Lardner, the Stadium Authority has not made any definitive decisions regarding the future of Aloha Stadium. Your recommendations, along with the other feedback we are soliciting, will be considered during our evaluation and decision-making process.
